Every year the Unit prepares mainly the three following publications which complement one another:

• Statistical Yearbook of the Environment of the Czech Republic
• Report on the Environment of the Czech Republic
• State of the Environment in the Regions of the Czech Republic

The Report on the Environment of the Czech Republic focuses on the evaluation of the existing trends in the environment, the impact of economic sectors on the environment, instruments and expenditures of environmental protection or the relationship between the environment and the society. The report State of the Environment in the Regions of the Czech Republic aims to provide detailed regional information and the Statistical Yearbook of the Environment of the Czech Republic provides specific information of the biggest possible extent with a minimum of explanatory texts.

The data provided in the publication is used for public administration but may be also well utilized:

• for education at all levels,
• by voluntary and non-governmental organisations,
• for international cooperation in the area of information exchange (the English version),
• as an initial information for foreign investors operating in the Czech Republic,
• as an information source of broader aspects of the environment used by specialists,
• as a practical control tool of environmental policy used by all taxpayers.

The data is available to the public. It is provided both in printed and electronic form on the Internet or on CDs.

The Unit also participates in the continuous collection and update of the Environmental and Sustainable Development Indicators which provide a comprehensive account of some significant trends in the environment or economic and social areas.

The Environmental Statistics Unit is also responsible for:

• coordination of activities concerning reporting to the European Union and the administration of a new reporting information system database, which contains data on reporting-related legislation and on the obligations ensuing from such legislation, including a reports archive
• activities of the National Focal Point (NFP) for the European Environment Agency (EEA) – responsible for the fulfilment of reporting to EEA
• state statistical services of the Ministry of the Environment – within the Programme of Statistical Survey organised by the Czech Statistical Office, the Unit prepares the following statistical analyses:

- Popl (MŽP) 1-01 Annual Report on Air Pollution Charges – Medium Stationary Pollution Sources
- Popl (MŽP) 2-01 Annual Report on Land Appropriation and Charges for Appropriation of Land Designated for Forest Functions pursuant to the Forest Act
- Popl (MŽP) 3-01 Annual Report on Waste Deposit Charges
- Popl (MŽP) 4-01 Annual Report on Air Pollution Charges – Large and Extra Large Pollution Sources
- Odv (MŽP) 1-01 Annual Report on Land Appropriation and Charges for Appropriation of Land from the Agricultural Land Fund pursuant to the Act on Agricultural Land Fund Protection.
