Map Server
Map Server
The map server is an independent part of the Portal of the Public Administration established by the Ministry of Informatics of the Czech Republic. The map server is operated by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic with CENIA being responsible for the current operation.
Map compositions on the map server
The map compositions offered by the server are divided into categories according to thematic topics. The number of map compositions is increasing continuously. Each composition is accompanied by a metadata description, created in compliance with the CSN ISO 19 115 standard Geographic Information – Metadata
, which provides the user with a more detailed description of the data used by the map compositions.

Technical solution
The technical solution of the Map Services of the Portal of the Public Administration is based on UNIX operating systems and ESRI technology – ArcIMS map server and ArcSDE spatial database. The web interface of the map server is based on the application developed by MGE Data – Mapmaker. The application makes the maps interactive providing the following functions:
- scale customization,
- searching using the coordinates,
- searching using the name or the address of a location,
- distance measuring,
- toggling on/off visibility of various layers,
- summary of textual information about a given object.
Shared map services
In addition to the web interface, the map services are accessible via IMS and WMS services, which means they can be used not only by professionals working with different GIS software, but also by other map servers that can adopt and use the map services together with their own locally saved data. Similarly as the Map Services of the Portal of the Public Administration, they can adopt external map services from remote servers.
